2027 IAEA INIR Mission

The Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC), led by its Chairman/CEO, Engr. Dr. Anthony Ekedegwa, has continued its engagement with key stakeholders as part of preparations for the IAEA Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Review (INIR) Mission, scheduled for the Q1 of 2027.

As part of this engagement, the NAEC delegation paid courtesy visits to the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) and the Nigeria Geological Survey Agency (NGSA).

At NIHSA, the delegation was received by the Director-General, Arch. Umar Ibrahim Mohammed, while at NGSA, the Chairman/CEO was received by the Director-General, Prof. Olusegun Ige. Discussions at both agencies focused on areas of inter-agency collaboration and the technical requirements relevant to Nigeria’s preparation for the forthcoming INIR Mission.

As part of the preparations, NAEC will host a Technical Stakeholders’ Meeting from 28–29 September 2026 to review the relevant 19 IAEA nuclear infrastructure issues, examine available information and data from stakeholders, identify outstanding requirements, and agree on necessary actions ahead of the mission.

The INIR Mission represents an important step in the Commission’s ongoing efforts towards the implementation of Nigeria’s Nuclear Power Programme, with continued collaboration among relevant national stakeholders.
