NAEC DELEGATION VISITS EFCC

The Chairman/CEO, NAEC, Prof. Yusuf Ahmed with top management staff on Monday, 4th July, 2022 visited the Economic and Financial Crime Commission(EFCC). The delegation was received by the Chairman EFCC AbdulRasheed Bawa.

The purpose of the visit according to Prof. Ahmed was to follow up on an earlier request by NAEC on allocation of one of the forfeited assets within the Central Business District Area in Abuja for allocation to NAEC as office.

In May 2022, Mr. President signed into law the Proceeds of Crime (Recovery and Management) Act 2022. With the signing of the bill by Mr. President, the management of the forfeited properties was transferred to the EFCC for management. The bill provides for the restraints, seizure, confiscation and forfeiture of property derived from unlawful activities.

Responding, the EFCC CHM appreciated the visit by NAEC and directed that the EFCC Secretary and Director on Forfeited Assets to liaise with NAEC in identifying suitable property for recommendation and submission to Mr. President for approval.

It will be recalled that in 2018, NAEC applied for office allocation and got approval in 2019 on a property at Yakubu Gowon Crescent, Asokoro, however NAEC could not meet up with conditions attached to it and the property was given to another agency.

In 2021, NAEC reapplied for the Forfeited  Assets through the Presidential Committee on forfeited assets which was then  under the Fed. Min. Justice. The committee had considered and recommended NAEC for allocation before EFCC took over the management of the forfeited assets in 2022.
