Chief of Staff to the President visits NAEC
The Chief of Staff (CoS) to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila on 21st August, 2024 paid a working visit to the headquarters of NAEC in Abuja. The CoS had on his delegation the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, the Permanent Secretary State House, Engineer Olufunsho Adebiyi. The visit is coming on the heels of the retreat on the need for effective ways to save the cost of governance for Agencies under the State House and the Presidency.
Professor Yusuf A. Ahmed, Chairman, NAEC along with his Management team received the CoS at the head office conference room.
In his welcome address, Prof. Ahmed presented a brief on the mandate and activities of the Commission as well as its Centers across the country. The presentation also included the various applications of nuclear science and technology and the progress NAEC has made so far in the implementation of Nigeria’s Nuclear Power Program with emphases on the socio-economic benefits of introducing nuclear power into Nigeria’s energy mix.
The Chairman on behalf of the Commission expressed his appreciation to the CoS for being the first high powered delegation from the Presidency to visit NAEC. The Chairman informed the CoS that Office accommodation and financial constraints were some of the challenges the Commission is facing.
In his response, the CoS to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila commended the Chairman, NAEC, Professor Yusuf Ahmed and his Management for effectively managing the various centers under NAEC across the six geopolitical zones. The CoS stressed on the importance of the nuclear energy program in the country and advised NAEC to continuously brief his office on the nuclear power program implementation timelines in order to effectively gauge and be guided on the progress of the nuclear power program.
On the issue of office space, the CoS promised to assist NAEC secure a befitting space within the budget cycle. Honorable Femi Gbajabiamila commended the Chairman for a job weldone so far in promoting the peaceful application of nuclear science and technology for socio-economic development in Nigeria.
