The National President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), Engr. Festus Osifo, paid a working visit to the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC) on August 27, 2025.
The visit was aimed at discussing key issues affecting staff welfare, remuneration, and potential areas of collaboration between the Union and the Commission.
In his welcome remarks, the Acting Chairman of NAEC, Engr. Dr. Anthony Ekedegwa, expressed appreciation for Engr. Osifo’s visit, acknowledging the Union’s commitment towards protecting the rights and welfare of its members . He highlighted PENGASSAN’s successful advocacy for improved remuneration at the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) and requested similar support for NAEC Union staff members.
Engr. Dr. Ekedegwa emphasized the challenges faced by NAEC in retaining trained staff due to poor remuneration and better offers from abroad. He noted that this issue has led to staff resigning or refusing to return to Nigeria after being trained overseas.
