A delegation from the Department of State Services (DSS) undertook a familiarization visit to the Nuclear Technology Center (NTC) in Sheda. The DSS team was led by Mrs. Nadia Mohammed Soso, Director, Simulation and Crises Management while the NAEC delegation included the Acting Chairman/CEO of the Commission, Eng. Dr. Anthony Ekedegwa, Director(NRID) Eng. Justin Salu, Deputy Directors of ICL, Procurement and Health Physics/ Radioactive Waste Management and the TA(OCM) among other top Management staff of NTC.

During the visit, the Director of NTC, Sheda Eng. Tajudeen K. Mustapha briefed the DSS team on the diverse applications of the gamma irradiation facility (GIF) and emphasized its optimal utilization as a critical asset for enhancing national food security. The delegation also received a guided inspection of the GIF and the Multipurpose Laboratory often referred to as the Glass House.

The tour facilitated a first-hand assessment of the peaceful applications of Nuclear research and development dedicated to advancing Nigeria’s agricultural and food security objectives for socio-economic development.
