Nigeria Pushes for Stronger Nuclear Science Agenda at 11th NPT Review Conference:

As part of activities at the ongoing 11th Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty(NPT) Review Conference in New York, USA, the Ag. Chairman of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission, Engr. Dr. Anthony Ekedegwa paid a strategic working visit to Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Senator Ibrahim F. Jimoh CFR.

The meeting focused on the critical role of Nuclear Science and Technology in driving Nigeria’s socio-economic development and the urgent need for the country to deliberately position itself as a leading player in Africa’s nuclear energy and technology landscape.

Key issues discussed included the non-payment of Nigeria’s financial obligations to both the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization, as well as the need for urgent Government intervention to revitalise the nation’s Gamma Irradiation Facility.

In response, His Excellency, Senator Ibrahim F. Jimoh, assured the delegation that the concerns raised would be escalated for the attention of Government at the highest level.
