The appointment was approved by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on 20 July 2026, and takes immediate effect.

The appointment reflects the Federal Government’s continued commitment to strengthening the institutional capacity of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission in the discharge of its statutory mandate of promoting the peaceful application of nuclear science and technology for national development.

Engr. Dr. Ekedegwa is a seasoned nuclear engineer and administrator with extensive experience in nuclear science, technology, research, policy development, and institutional leadership. His appointment comes at a critical period as Nigeria continues to deepen its commitment to energy security, technological innovation, industrial development, healthcare, agriculture, environmental protection, and other socio-economic sectors through the peaceful use of nuclear technology.

The Commission expresses confidence that under his leadership, NAEC will consolidate its achievements, strengthen strategic partnerships, enhance research and innovation, and accelerate the implementation of key national nuclear programmes in line with global best practices and the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
