NAEC Chairman Pays Working Visit to Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation.
The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC), Dr. Engr. Anthony Ekedegwa, accompanied by members of the Commission’s Management Team, paid a working visit to the Honourable Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, on Tuesday, 22 July 2026.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman/CEO presented an overview of the Commission, highlighting its statutory mandate and providing an update on the progress made in implementing Nigeria’s Nuclear Power Programme. He also briefed the Honourable Minister on the site evaluation activities carried out on the selected locations for the proposed Nuclear Power Plant (NPP).
Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Samuel Adegbulugbe, Head,Planning,Sitting ,Design& Licensing (PSDL)
, informed the Minister that the Commission requires additional hydrological data to complement the bathymetric survey already conducted along the Rivers Niger and Benue, particularly from Kainji to Lokoja. According to him, the additional information will enable the Commission to validate and analyse its findings. He also requested access to data on dams and embankments within the study area, historical records of dam failures (if any), and incidents of river overtopping.
In his response, the Honourable Minister warmly welcomed the NAEC delegation and expressed appreciation for the visit. He acknowledged the strategic importance of water resources in the deployment of nuclear power plants and assured the Commission of the Ministry’s full cooperation and support in advancing Nigeria’s nuclear energy programme in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Minister further proposed the development of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry and NAEC to establish a framework for sustained collaboration in areas of mutual interest, particularly in supporting the successful implementation of the nation’s nuclear power programme.
Other members of the NAEC delegation included Engr. Justin Salau (Director, RNID), Engr. Awwal Bissala (Head, ICL), Dr. Uche Madu (TAC), Mr. Ezekiel, Barr. Ogechi Nwankama (Head, Legal Department), the Head of MTCD, and Engr. Usman (Head, Procurement)
