The Ag. Chairman
NAEC
Engr. Dr. Anthony Inalegwu Godwin Ekedegwa, MNSE,
CEng
was born in Otukpo, Benue State, Nigeria on October 17,1968. He is presently
the Ag. Chairman of the Nigeria Atomic
Energy Commission (NAEC).
Before
his present appointment, he served in various key positions within the
Commission, including:
- Director, Planning, Siting, Design & Licensing,
Nuclear Power Plant Development Directorate, NAEC (2021 – September 2024)
- Deputy Head, Nuclear Power Plant Development
Directorate
- Head of Department, Nuclear Security, Safety &
Safeguards
Dr.
Anthony Ekedegwa is an accomplished scholar and professional engineer. He
obtained a Bachelor of Engineering
(B.Eng.) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (1992) from Federal University of
Technology (FUT), Owerri, a Certificate
in Nuclear Power Plant & Project Management (2007), a Master of Technology (M.Tech.), Electrical
Engineering from River State University of Science & Technology, Nkpolu,
Port- Harcourt in Electrical/Electronics Engineering (2012). He also holds
a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
in Electrical /Electronics (Power and Machine) Engineering from University of
Abuja.
In
addition to his leadership role at NAEC, Dr. Ekedegwa represents Nigeria in
several strategic international and national capacities. He currently serves
as:

National Liaison
Officer (NLO) to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
·
Council Member,
Nigeria Nuclear Security Support Centre at IAEA/ONSA (2017 – present)
·
Director
responsible for interfacing with the Office of the National Security Adviser
(ONSA)
·
IAEA Technical
Cooperation Counterpart on Small Modular Reactor (SMR) development.
·
National Contact Person on the Comprehensive
Nuclear Test-Ban treaty Organisation (CTBTO).
·
National Coordinator , African regional
Cooperative Agreement and Training related to Nuclear Science and
Technology(AFRA)
Dr.
Anthony Ekedegwa is a Chartered
Engineer (CEng) and a Member of
the Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE), with extensive experience in
nuclear power development, nuclear safety, and international cooperation.
DR.
Ekedegwa is married and blessed with
children.
