NAEC Inaugurates IAEA/AFRA PROJECT RAF 5088 at Nuclear Technology Center ( NTC), Sheda, FCT.

The Chairman/CEO, NAEC, Professor Yusuf A. Ahmed inaugurated the newly constituted Project Management Team of AFRA Project RAF 5088 to build capacity for food irradiation towards facilitating the commercial application of irradiation technologies on Tuesday 23rd May, 2023 at the Gamma Irradiation Facility(GIF), NTC, Sheda,FCT. The Director NTC, Dr Hamman Tukur Gabdo who represented the Chairman said that RAF 5088 is one of the Regional Projects approved for Nigeria’s participation in the 2022-2024 project cycle.

The NAEC Chairman tasked the Project Management Team to ensure the successful execution of the project within the stipulated time frame. In a presentation at the event, the Project Coordinator/Deputy Director GIF, Engineer T.K Mustapha gave a detailed overview of Project RAF 5088.

The Role of Project Management Team in project implementation was also presented by Mr Shehu Isah of the CTBTO Unit. Mr Chad Anyaegbu of the ICL Directorate also delivered a paper on the the role of ICL in the implementation of RAF projects in Nigeria.
Members of the IAEA/AFRA Project Management Team were drawn from NAFDAC, University of Abuja, Nigerian Export Promotion Council,All Farmers Association of Nigeria, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development
and Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission.

As part of the inauguration ceremony, the team held her first planning meeting at the Conference Hall of the Gamma Irradiation Facility(GIF) and took a facility tour of the GIF to appreciate the facility’s readiness for the IAEA/AFRA Project RAF 5088.
