On July 2, 2025, the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS) paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC) Headquarters to explore opportunities for collaboration, particularly in nuclear security.

 

The Commandant of NISS, Mr. JO Odama, appreciated NAEC’s longstanding support and sought the Commission’s input in their upcoming training module.

 

In response, NAEC’s Acting Chairman, Dr. Anthony I.G.Ekedegwa, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to supporting national capacity-building efforts and assured NISS of NAEC’s readiness to assist.

 

Prof. Abdullahi Mati, Director, Nuclear Power Plant Department(NAEC), highlighted areas for potential collaboration in nuclear security, while Prof. Yakubu Viva emphasized the importance of integrating nuclear security into national training programs, in line with the IAEA’s 19 infrastructure issues.

 

The NISS Commandant welcomed the suggestions and pledged to incorporate nuclear security into their next module.
