COURTESY VISIT OF THE VICE CHANCELLOR, FEDERAL UNIVERSITY DUTSE TO NIGERIA ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION (NAEC)

The Vice Chancellor of Federal University Dutse (FUD), Jigawa State Professor Ahmad Muhammad Gumel, paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC) Headquarters in Abuja to meet with the Acting Chairman, Engr. Dr. Anthony Ekedegwa on 13th April, 2026.

The visit aimed to explore potential collaboration with NAEC in the procurement of equipment to support cancer-related research at the University. During the meeting, Professor Gumel noted that Federal University Dutse is one of the very few institutions in the country equipped with a 4D MRI scanner.

In response, the Acting Chairman expressed delight at the University’s acquisition of the 4D MRI scanner and acknowledged it as a great and commendable achievement.

The Head of International Cooperation and Liaison (ICL), Engr. Awwal Bisallah, briefed the Vice Chancellor during the visit on how the University, through the Commission, can secure the required equipment from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He also encouraged the Vice Chancellor to pursue collaboration with the National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT), which supports universities in cancer research through training and other capacity-building initiatives. Furthermore, he informed the Vice Chancellor that the Commission would submit the University’s request for consideration under the Country Programme Framework with the IAEA.

The Acting Chairman directed Engr. Awwal to provide the University with all the necessary requirements and guide them through the process, stressing the need to extend opportunities to other institutions rather than focusing only on those that have already benefited. He further assured the Vice Chancellor that the Commission would do everything within its capacity to assist the university and encouraged him to ensure that his staff explore the relevant training opportunities available on IAEA’s In-TouchPlus platform.

The Director of the Nuclear Technology Centre (NTC), Engr. Tajudeen Mustapha, used the opportunity to highlight the potential benefits of some of the Centre’s equipment for students of Federal University Dutse. He encouraged the Vice Chancellor to consider organizing student excursions to the Centre, noting that other universities already take advantage of such opportunities.
