CMD of Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) visits NAEC
The Ag.CM/CEO of Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC), Engr. Dr. Anthony Ekedegwa, welcomed the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Prof. Ahmed Umdagas Hamidu, and the Director Administration, Barr. Buhari Zailani, to the Commission on 30th October 2025.
The CMD, Prof. Ahmed Umdagas Hamidu, expressed appreciation to the Ag. CM/CEO and his
Management for the opportunity to visit the Commission. He stated that the objective of their visit is to explore areas of collaboration with the Commission in terms of Research,Training of ABUTH staff as well as Procurement needed equipment for ABUTH.
He also appreciated the Ag. CM/CEO for scheduling the visit of the Acting Director of the Division for Africa, IAEA Technical Cooperation Department, Mr. Gashaw Gebeyehu Wolde, to ABUTH.
Prof. Ahmed Umdagas Hamidu said that ABUTH has had a Nuclear Medicine structure in the hospital since 2010, which has not been put to use. He urged the Ag. CM/CEO to assist them in accessing IAEA support to enable them to make proper use of the facility.
In his response, the Ag. CM/CEO assured the ABUTH delegation that the Commission would do its best to encourage and assist any institution seeking partnership. He urged them to continue building capacity by taking advantage of relevant training programs
through the IAEA InTouch+ platform.
Engr. Awwal Bisallah DD and Head International Cooperation and Liaison, NAEC noted that Nigeria had written to the IAEA indicating interest to participate in “Rays of Hope” and commended the CMD on the efforts ABUTH is making.
