NAEC,NARSDA Forge Stronger Partnership to Advance Nigeria 's Nuclear Power Programne
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC), Engr. Dr. Anthony Inalegwu Godwin Ekedegwa, has called for stronger collaboration with the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) to harness space science and satellite technology in support of Nigeria’s Nuclear Power Programme.
The Chairman made the call during a courtesy visit to the Director General and Chief Executive of NASRDA, Dr. Matthew Olumide Adepoju, at the Agency’s Headquarters in Abuja.
Engr. Dr. Ekedegwa explained that NAEC is committed to the peaceful application of nuclear science and technology to drive Nigeria’s socio-economic development, with the Nuclear Power Programme serving as a key initiative to improve electricity generation and strengthen the nation’s energy security.
He noted that the Commission is seeking NASRDA’s technical expertise in geo-mapping, geo-monitoring, Earth observation, satellite imagery and other space-based technologies that will support the planning, site characterization, environmental monitoring and implementation of the Nuclear Power Programme.
According to him, leveraging NASRDA’s capabilities will enhance data-driven decision-making and reinforce the use of advanced technologies in delivering strategic national infrastructure projects.
Responding, the Director General and Chief Executive of NASRDA, Dr. Matthew Olumide Adepoju, welcomed the NAEC delegation and expressed the Agency’s readiness to collaborate with the Commission in advancing Nigeria’s Nuclear Power Programme.
He stated that NASRDA possesses the technical expertise and space-based technologies required to provide geospatial data, satellite imagery, Earth observation and other critical information that will support the planning, monitoring and implementation of the project.
Both agencies reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening inter-agency collaboration and leveraging their respective technical competencies to advance the peaceful application of nuclear science and space technology for national development.
