In line with the approved Strategic Plan for the Implementation of the National Nuclear Power Programme (2009, revised in 2015 & 2018/2019), the first nuclear power plant is expected to enter into commercial operation and generate 1,200MW of electricity by 2030. Three additional NPPs are expected to increase the generation capacity to 4,800MW by 2050.

ACTIVITIES OF THE NUCLEAR POWER PROGRAMME IN 2021

  1. National Stakeholders’ Workshop on Electric Grid Appropriateness for The Deployment of Nuclear Power Plant Held from 30th August to 1st September, 2021

NAEC, through the department of Planning, Licensing, Sitting and Design (PLSD), organized a three-day national stakeholders’ workshop to determine the appropriateness of electric grid for the deployment of nuclear power plants in Nigeria and proffer solutions to issues identified which may hinder the country from achieving the recommendations by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for grid sufficiency for nuclear power plants integration into the nation’s energy mix.
