EXPERTS MEET IN ABUJA TO DISCUSS CANCER TREATMENT IN WEST AFRICA

The United States Office of Multilateral and Nuclear Security and the UK Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) in collaboration with the  Civilian Research and Development Foundation(CRDF) organized a “Trilateral Meeting on Improving Access to Cancer Care for Rural Population in West Africa” at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja from 29th February to 1st March, 2024. 

Goal and objective of the meeting was to facilitate discussion among a wide range of experts-level participants, including researchers, civil society leaders, industry representatives, government officials, regulators, development organizations and other global and regional stakeholders.

The meeting which is a follow up to discussions held in 2023 on “Expanding Access to Radiation Medicine in West Africa” had in attendance participants from Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroun and the IAEA who brainstormed on challenges associated with access to cancer care in rural parts of West Africa and assessed current activities, models and programmes with the objective of generating actionable next steps to improve access and acceptance on nuclear medicine in rural areas of West Africa.

The meeting is a follow up to discussions held in 2023 on “Expanding Access to Radiation Medcine in West Africa”.
