IAEA to Partner with Nigeria on Nuclear Education.

Nigeria has signed a bilateral cooperation  agreement with the  IAEA for  the deployment of   Internet Reactor Laboratory (IRL) on the use of Research Reactor for nuclear courses at the University level.

The agreement was signed on Monday 26th, September 2022 at  the ongoing 66th General Conference of the IAEA in Vienna, Austria. The project is expected to be based at the Center for Research and Training (CERT) Zaria. The  VC, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Prof. Kabiru  Bala signed on behalf of Nigeria while Mikhail Chudakov, Deputy Director General, Nuclear Energy, IAEA represented the IAEA.

The project which was facilitated by the  Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission( NAEC) presents a unique opportunity for the research and teaching staff and cooperating Universities to participate in human capacity building in the field of  nuclear reactor physics and engineering.

As Nigeria prepares to add nuclear energy into its energy- mix, the project among things will  promote the exchange of knowledge and skills in physics and engineering in Nigeria and the sub-region.
