Kano State Government visit NAEC

The Kano State government led by the Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Alhaji Mohammed Othman paid a working and facility visit to the   Chairman/CEO,NAEC, Professor Ahmed Yusuf at the Commission Headquarters in  Asokoro and NTC, Sheda respectively  Wednesday 26th July, 2023.

The delegation from Kano included the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Hajiya Binta Umar Bala.  

The Chairman/CEO of NAEC Professor Yusuf Ahmed spoke on the need for beneficial collaboration with the Kano State government and NAEC in the areas of peaceful application of nuclear science and technology. 

Responding, the Kano State Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Alhaji Mohammed Othman extended the warm wishes of the Kano State Governor, Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf to the Chairman/CEO, NAEC while informing the Chairman on plans by the Kano State government to explore and  collaborate with the Commission on the various peaceful applications of nuclear technology for the socio- economic development of it’s people. 

Earlier in the day, the Kano State government’s delegation accompanied by the DD/Head of Administration and Human Resources, Mr S.B. Ahidjo visited the GIF in  NTC at Sheda.  

Mr. S.B. Ahidjo in his welcome address at GIF Conference Room gave an overview of the Vision, Mission and activities of the Commission and it’s Centers across the country. He also informed the delegation of NAEC’s ongoing collaboration with the governments of Ekiti and Kogi States towards replicating the GIF and other peaceful application of nuclear science and technology in their States. 

In his response at NTC, Alhaji Mohammed Othman said coming to NAEC is the first assignment of the Ministry since the  inauguration of the new Kano State government. He said one of the mission of the Ministry and Kano State government is to explore areas of collaboration with NAEC on the peaceful application of nuclear science and technology especially with regards to the Gamma Irradiation Facility(GIF).

The DD/Head GIF, Engineer T. K.  Mustapha who represented the Director NTC, Dr Hamman Tukur Gabdo gave a detailed presentation on the various applications of the GIF for food security and socioeconomic development. He also allayed the concerns and fears of the Kano State delegation on and about the GIF and its application in the areas food and agricultural produce preservation
