NAEC Receives Delegation from World Institute for Nuclear Security (WINS)

The Acting Chairman of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC), Engr. Anthony Ekedewa received a delegation from the World Institute for Nuclear Security (WINS) in his office on Friday in Abuja, in a bid to strengthen nuclear security.
The delegation, led by WINS Executive Director Mr. Lars Van Dassen and accompanied by Senior Project Manager Ms. Asel Khamseyva, is on a working visit to Nigeria to promote nuclear security awareness and engage with key stakeholders. The discussions focused on strengthening Nigeria’s nuclear security framework through strategic national, regional, and international partnerships.
During the high-level meeting, the Acting Chairman of NAEC made several key requests, including:
• Increased training certification slots for Nigerian professionals by WINS
• Potential funding support for integrating nuclear security curricula into tertiary institutions
• Assistance in enhancing the physical protection of NAEC facilities
• Affiliation of the Centre for Nuclear Energy Studies (CNES), University of Port Harcourt, as a certified training institute, including equipment support.
The WINS delegation assured Engr. Ekedegwa that the institution will look into the request made by NAEC and hold further discussions.
WINS, headquartered in Vienna, Austria, is an international non-governmental organization that provides professional training and certification for individuals with nuclear security responsibilities across industries, academia, government, and law enforcement.
