Nigeria and Russia Hold Bilateral Talks

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar in Moscow on Wednesday, 6th March, 2024, held talks with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov on strengthening economic ties between the two countries. 

On the sidelines, Chairman, NAEC,Prof. Yusuf A. Ahmed held discussions with the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation to further explore deeper cooperation on peaceful application of nuclear energy.

During a press conference after the high level talks, Amb. Tuggar said, “we have a joint commission in place between the two countries, a meeting will be coming up soon. We have of course a committee that is going to be constituted soon. With all of that we have collaborations vis- a- vis nuclear science which has different applications in power and in the field of medicine”.

Reacting, Mr Lavrov said that “the negotiations were useful. They confirmed the importance of regular political dialogue between our countries”. He stated that Nigeria- Russia ties will continue to develop progressively and that “we have a mutual intention and that this trend will be strengthened in the areas of our relationship, notably the commercial and economic component. Other areas with the most potential include collaboration in the energy sector, infrastructure construction, agriculture, healthcare and education”, he said.
