Technical Meeting on Feasibility Studies and Site Specific Data Collection at Geregu/Dodo-Gbagi Nuclear Power Plant Site.

The Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission flagged off a 3-day National Stakeholders’ Technical Meeting on Feasibility Studies and Site Specific Data Collection at Geregu/Dodo-Gbagi Nuclear Power Plant Site. The 3-day meeting is scheduled to hold from February 12 to 14, 2025, in Abuja.

The purpose of the meeting is to further deliberate, demonstrate and update the Pre-feasibility studies earlier conducted by the Commission on the viability of the project from technical, financial, economic and environmental stand-point as contained in the Commission’s nuclear power roadmap.

The Ag. Chairman, NAEC, Engr. Anthony Ekedegwa in his opening remarks yesterday, highlighted the importance of Feasibility study in the construction of a conventional Nuclear Power Plant, taking into consideration the 19 Infrastructural issues as set out by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Dr. Mbet Akpanowo of the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA), in his opening address, emphasized the significance of siting in NPP. He acknowledged the efforts made by NAEC but stressed that more work needs to be done to ensure the successful implementation of NPP. He added that NNRA also have a crucial role to play in feasibility studies, which he said will be extensively discussed in the course of the meeting.

In attendance were representatives from NNRA, NIHSA, FMA&FS, NIMET, FMEnv, FMWRS, NEMA, NGSA, NESREA, OSGF, OSGoF and other stakeholders.
